大リーグにとっても対岸の火事ではない。日本プロ野球が新型コロナウイルスの影響により、オープン戦全72試合を無観客試合で開催すると発表したことを受け、27日の米メディアも反応した。
「アジアでトップの2リーグ、日本と韓国でオープン戦を観戦することは不可能となった。大リーグも新型コロナウイルスが流行した場合の対策を疾病管理予防センターと保健福祉省に問い合わせ、アドバイスを球団にフィードバックした」とはロサンゼルス・タイムズ紙（電子版）。
米ヤフースポーツも「選手たちにとって奇妙な雰囲気でのプレーになるのは間違いない。日本は7月に五輪も開催予定だが、国際オリンピック委員会（IOC）で最長任期の委員は、これに疑問を投げ掛けた」と報じた。
IOCのディック・パウンド委員は「遅かれ早かれ、人々は疑問に思わざるを得なくなると言うべきだ。『東京に行くべきか否か、現在は（ウイルス対策が）確信を持てる十分なコントロール下にあるだろうか』と」AP通信に語り、「（IOCが）最終的な決定を下すデッドラインは、大体5月半ばだろう」と予想。さらに「現時点で（開会式の）7月24日はゴーだが、状況は流動的だ。誰もこのウイルスについて分からない。だから、ゴーサインは変更される可能性もある」と語った。
